Harriet's Half Marathon: Sibling Support
After her younger brother Alex was diagnosed with PSC at age 17, Harriet did everything she could to learn more about the disease. Her family discovered PSC Support’s website, where the clear, reliable information and strong sense of community helped them navigate their PSC journey.
Inspired to give back, Harriet ran the Cambridge Half Marathon to raise funds and awareness.
A Personal Challenge Becomes a Meaningful Cause
I discovered PSC Support after my brother was diagnosed with PSC at 17 years old.
After spending over three weeks in hospital, where they ran a significant number of tests, my younger brother Alex was diagnosed with the rare disease primary sclerosing cholangitis - or PSC.
Like many, my first instinct was to turn to Google - only to find it overwhelming and frightening. PSC Support provided clear, reliable information and a sense of community, which was so important to me and my family at that time.
Why PSC Support Matters to Me
I had run a half marathon once before, so decided to challenge myself again, but this time to do it for charity, which made it even more meaningful. Raising money for PSC Support is incredibly important to me, and the generosity of friends, family, and even strangers has been truly amazing.
Beating My Fundraising Goal
I set an initial target of £1,000, but the response was incredible, and I ended up raising over £2,900!
Race Day Reflections
On race day, Cambridge Half delivered sunshine, buzzing crowds, and an incredible atmosphere. So many people came out to cheer on the runners, and my family and friends were there with signs and cheers that kept me going.
The last 5k was especially challenging, but I kept reminding myself of the cause I was running for. It was that motivation that helped me push through to the finish line.
Running for Alex
Unfortunately, Alex couldn’t be there on the day, which made the fundraiser feel even more meaningful. Knowing that the money raised would help people like him pushed me forward to the finish line. #LetsBeatPSC

We are extremely thankful to Harriet, Alex, Moira and their community for the support raising vital awareness and over £2,900 for PSC Support!
